our agreement, in plain language.

tuon is a tutoring service operated by Valentin Cela, a sole proprietor in Toronto, Ontario. we match Ontario students (grade 1 through 12, plus adult learners) with internal tutors for one-on-one online or in-home tutoring sessions.

we are not a school. we do not issue grades or credentials. we supplement the education a student is receiving from an Ontario school or institution.

students aged 18 or older can sign up directly. for students under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete the intake or give explicit consent at the contact step.

tuon currently serves the Greater Toronto Area for both online and in-home tutoring. online sessions are available throughout Ontario; in-home sessions are limited to the GTA.

• first session: free. we don't charge for the first session. no card upfront.
• online sessions: $99 CAD per 60-minute session
• in-home sessions: $129 CAD per 60-minute session (includes tutor travel within the GTA)
• urgent sessions (same-day or next-day): $150 CAD online, $179 CAD in-home
• extended sessions: pro-rated at the same hourly rate

prices are in Canadian dollars and exclude HST. invoices issued through Stripe include HST where applicable. we may change prices with 30 days written notice; existing booked sessions are not affected.

• after your free first session, we save a payment method on file via Stripe
• each completed session is charged within 24 hours
• receipts are emailed automatically
• annual tax receipts are emailed every January for the prior tax year
• tutoring fees may qualify as deductible expenses; consult your accountant

• cancel any week: no contracts, no notice required, no fees
• cancel a specific session: free if cancelled at least 12 hours before scheduled start
• cancel within 12 hours: 50% of session fee charged
• no-show (student does not appear within 15 minutes): 100% of session fee charged
• tutor cancels: full credit applied to your account; we'll match you with another tutor or reschedule
• first-time forgiveness: we forgive your first late cancel or no-show, no charge

• first session is free; nothing to refund
• if you're unhappy with any subsequent session, email Valentin within 24 hours and we'll review the session note and either refund or credit you
• refund decisions are made in good faith; we do not unilaterally retain disputed payments

• your assigned tutor is qualified to teach your specific course code
• session 1 is free
• you can switch tutors any week without explanation
• weekly progress notes are emailed every Sunday during active periods
• your address (for in-home) is shared only with your assigned tutor
• your card is never charged without a corresponding session

• specific grade outcomes. tutoring helps; results depend on the student
• same tutor forever. tutors leave, get sick, change availability
• uptime. Daily.co, Stripe, Resend, Neon, Vercel are third parties; if they go down, we may have to reschedule
• service availability outside the GTA for in-home tutoring

you agree not to:

• use tuon to harass, abuse, or threaten any tutor or staff member
• record sessions without explicit consent from the tutor
• circumvent the platform to pay tutors directly (this hurts the tutor's protection too)
• misrepresent your identity, age, grade, or course
• provide false consent on behalf of an under-18 student

violation may result in termination of service without refund of pre-paid amounts.

worksheets, problem sets, and materials shared by tutors during sessions are licensed for the student's personal educational use. they may not be redistributed, posted online, or used commercially.

materials you upload (worksheets, report cards, photos) remain yours; we use them only to inform your tutoring.

tuon's total liability for any claim relating to our service is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months.

we are not responsible for indirect or consequential damages including, but not limited to, missed academic deadlines, grade outcomes, or third-party service interruptions (Daily.co, Stripe, etc.).

if we have a disagreement, the first step is always to email Valentin directly. most issues resolve within 48 hours.

if a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction.

if we update these terms, we'll email anyone with an active account at least 14 days before changes take effect. continuing to use tuon after that date means you accept the updated terms. if you don't, cancel anytime, no fees.
